The main intention was for the Shoji door to be seen from the entrance of the home so that it sets the tone of the house from the start. Our clients wanted their home to have a zen and calm atmosphere so that friends and family feel welcomed at home. The living room is their office area as well, so the shoji door acts like a room divider. When they require privacy to work, the shoji door can be closed, without compromising on the gentle sunlight that passes through. When they want to make the house feel bigger or enhance their creativity while working, they open up the shoji doors.

Our clients loved Japan and wanted their master bedroom to be a multi-functional space that could meet their daily needs such as sleeping, lounging and napping while also being able to enjoy their hobbies like reading and playing on their laptop. Multi-functional homes that provide quality long nights of rest, storage and office space are not hard to achieve and the design can be simple and minimalistic.

To fully maximise the platform & their display shelving, they went for top hang Shoji Door which also helps to complete the Japanese aesthetic. The Shoji Door has Washi Paper on both sides and there is a transparent acrylic sandwiched in the middle of the Washi Paper so that sunlight can pass through. This style ensures that the shoji door does not appear glossy and has an authentic look.
