Why They Chose Tatami
Mr Wong wanted to prepare a comfortable guest room for close relatives who would be coming home for a long vacation. He envisioned a space where they could rest comfortably while also enjoying a more authentic Japanese-style sleeping experience.

Our Approach
Rather than automatically recommending a raised platform, we looked at what the room actually needed.
Design Strategy
The key idea was to let the Tatami itself define the sleeping area without introducing unnecessary built-in structures.
The Tatami Mats were placed directly on the floor, creating a clean and simple foundation for the guest room. This approach kept the space visually uncluttered while making good use of the existing floor area. By choosing floor-laid Tatami instead of a raised platform, the client could direct his budget towards the parts of the room that mattered most: creating a comfortable sleeping experience for his guests.
The addition of a Shikibuton futon further complemented the Tatami and brought the room closer to a traditional Japanese-style sleeping setup.
End Result
The completed room became a simple and inviting Tatami sleeping space for Mr Wong's visiting relatives.
Most importantly, the client was able to achieve the Japanese-inspired atmosphere he wanted without taking on the additional cost of building a custom platform.
After the Tatami installation, Mr Wong was ecstatic with the result: a straightforward solution that was comfortable, practical and well suited to his needs.
