Our Tatami can be maintained in three easy steps.

  • Vacuum: Lightly vacuum along the weave.
  • Wipe: Use a cloth that has been squeezed dry.
  • Mist: Spray over the Tatami using our Tatami Mist or a distilled white vinegar solution. Avoid spraying on the colored fabric borders to prevent accidental stains.
  • Dry: Let it air dry for 15-30 minutes.

We recommend doing this at least once a week to allow your Tatami to go a long way with you.

You may contact our Tatami Team at +65 9101 1795 or +65 6336 6018 so that we may advise you based on your requirements.

Our average lifespan of our Tatami is ~8-10 years, only when the Tatami is taken care of and has been properly maintained. We have seen some of our clients using our Tatami for up to 15-20 years as well. With proper maintenance with our specially formulated Tatami Mist or your distilled white vinegar solution and lots of love, our Tatami can go a long way with you.

We do not offer a formal warranty because our products are made from natural materials. The lifespan of your Tatami depends on how it is used and maintained. With proper care, many of our customers have kept theirs for ~8-10 years.

The fresh grassy fragrance of the Igusa can be strong for the first 6 months but it will eventually tone down when you become used to the Tatami fragrance. The fragrance of the Tatami is a very important part to the Japanese as it is akin to that of forest therapy (Shinrin-Yoku) and has plenty of benefits for the mind and body.

Tatami has a history of more than 2000 years in Japanese culture and lifestyle. Tatami originated in Japan, and it is a type of woven mat traditionally used by Japanese Royals, Samurais, and Japanese Officials as beds, flooring and seating. The Japanese believe that Tatami has a natural connection to the individual’s wellbeing. Some benefits include the distinctive grassy fragrance of the Igusa, relaxing your mind and body, and being able to cool your body down during hot and humid temperatures and vice versa. No. We use a natural vegetable dye with no chemicals to achieve the dark tone. Please note that these are limited-edition items; once our current stock is sold out, they will not be restocked.

In Japan, the Tatami traditionally acts as a flooring in their rooms where their daily day activities take place. When it is night time, they would take out their Shikibuton (Futon) as their mattress for night sleeping and fold it back up in the morning for their daily day activities. Yes, but in a good way. Regular contact actually helps "season" the fibers, making the surface smoother over time. Like any natural material, you’ll see some wear and tear after years of use, but keeping it clean with our Tatami Mist or a distilled white vinegar solution helps maintain the fibers.

To keep your Tatami in good condition, avoid dragging sharp or pointed objects across it. Because it is a natural product, it should be used regularly and not kept in storage without airflow for long periods.

We recommend a quick cleaning at least once a week:

  • Vacuum: Lightly vacuum along the weave.
  • Wipe: Use a cloth that has been squeezed dry.
  • Mist: Spray over the Tatami using our Tatami Mist or a distilled white vinegar solution. Avoid spraying on the colored fabric borders to prevent accidental stains.
  • Dry: Let it air dry for 15-30 minutes.

Our Tatami has been specially innovated for hot and humid climates for the prevention of mould. We also have our specially formulated Tatami Mist (available in Singapore only) to give our Tatami an additional layer of protection.

Our Tatami is handcrafted by Japanese artisans using Premium 100% Natural Igusa from the southern part of Japan, in Kyushu, Kumamoto.
