Client Brief

Key Challenges & Needs

  • The client was tall, and the loft area featured low headroom. Every millimeter of thickness mattered to ensure he could move comfortably without sacrificing support.
  • Having previously used synthetic futon-style materials, Client found them lacking in breathability. He specifically sought the "cooling effect" and natural fragrance of authentic Japanese Tatami.
  • He required a very firm surface that would not sag, providing the skeletal alignment necessary for a restorative night’s sleep.
  • The installation needed to be precise to allow the area beneath the loft to function as a productive, clutter-free workspace

Design Strategy


The strategy focused on "Low Profile, High Performance." We utilized a custom-thickness Tatami mat that provided the required firmness for the client’s height and weight while remaining thin enough to maximize the "vertical breathing room" in the loft.

Craftsmanship & Installation


Because the loft was a custom build, the angles were unique. Our team conducted precise measurements to ensure a wall-to-wall fit. This "integrated flooring" approach eliminated the need for a bulky bed frame, effectively turning the entire loft floor into a giant, breathable mattress
