Why They Chose Tatami

Sing Man Temple required meditation seating that could withstand continuous daily use while remaining comfortable for practitioners spending extended periods in meditation. The cushions needed to be durable enough for a busy communal environment, yet provide the natural comfort and breathability expected in a peaceful spiritual setting.
Traditional Tatami was selected because it combines natural materials with exceptional longevity. Its breathable Igusa rush surface stays comfortable during long meditation sessions, while its resilient construction is designed to maintain its structure through years of repeated use.
As the partnership continued, the quality of the products built long-term confidence. The temple's spiritual leader and resident helpers eventually chose our Tatami Mattresses and Mats for their own living quarters, extending the same comfort from shared meditation spaces into their personal daily lives.

Our Approach


We supplied premium Tatami Meditation Cushions specifically designed for daily institutional use. Each cushion was selected for its balance of comfort, durability, and traditional Japanese handcraftsmanship.
Rather than focusing only on appearance, the solution prioritised long-term performance, ensuring the cushions would continue supporting the temple community for years without significant deterioration.




Design Strategy

The meditation hall was furnished with Tatami Meditation Cushions arranged to provide organised individual seating while maintaining an open, uncluttered environment that encourages stillness and focus.

Natural Igusa Tatami offers gentle support while remaining breathable throughout extended meditation sessions. Its subtle texture also contributes to a quieter, more grounded atmosphere without distracting from the purpose of the space.


The emphasis was on creating a meditation environment that feels calm, functional, and timeless, where every element supports mindfulness rather than competing for attention.
Over time, the success of the communal meditation space naturally extended into the temple's residential areas, where Tatami mattresses and Fusion Mats were incorporated to support rest and daily living with the same philosophy of natural comfort.

Over 150 Tatami Meditation Cushions remain in active use, supporting daily meditation sessions after years of continuous service. Their longevity highlights the durability, structural integrity, and breathable comfort of natural Tatami, even in demanding, high-traffic environments.
